Hi! My name is Brittney, and I'm from Texas, USA. I've been living in Taiwan and teaching English for about a year now, but before I moved here, I taught middle and high school math and science in America. I enjoy reading, traveling, and playing video games (JRPGs are my favorite! Especially Fire Emblem. And Pokemon is a lot of fun, too!)

I like to teach in a way that fits the student. I like conversation and I encourage independent thinking. I ask a lot of questions and help guide students to their own conclusions and ideas. For English, I help them find words they know in their own vocabulary and then find new ones that they can connect to. I follow the same approach for other subjects - we'll build on what you already know!

If they don't, I can find materials to use. I believe in practice, practice, practice, so the more we do something, the stronger you'll get in it. Sometimes it can be a little boring, especially when practicing for entrance exams, but vocabulary is key and expanding that vocabulary is the primary focus of my lessons.

Practice tests are good for standardized exams and I teach specific strategies to help score higher on exams. For standardized exams, it isn't always a test on how much knowledge you have, but on how well you can apply minimal knowledge. I also focus on developing language skills if the student is an ESL learner.

If a student is working on specific course work, I usually start with their current assignments. If they are doing well on those and have a good understanding, I will look at standards for the course and begin to work ahead with the student and pre-teach concepts. Usually with individual tutoring courses, I tailor lessons to what the student is looking to gain since every student is different.
