The activities in this lesson are designed to assist you in a wide variety of possible travel-related situations. The topics covered are designed to walk learners through the whole experience of traveling abroad, starting from the plane ride overseas, continuing through various situations learners are likely to encounter overseas, and checking in for the flight home.

All of the standard topics one would imagine for this lesson type -- such as shopping, getting directions, mailing things, eating out, etcetera -- are covered, as are a few Japan-specific topics (how to describe Japanese culture, and answering common questions about Japan).

Reading comprehension is defined as the level of understanding of a text. This understanding comes from the interaction between the words that are written and how they trigger knowledge outside the text. Reading comprehension is one of the most difficult concepts for students to master. Understanding the story or text often takes much background knowledge of words, vocabulary, sentence structure, and much more.

News articles can be powerful learning tools for ESL students! Unlike the usual ESL reading comprehension activities, news resources can engage students on an immediate level. You can study the language by learning about what’s going on in the world.

Breaking News English provides lessons based on current events. The main content of each lesson consists of a piece of news article which is accompanied by exercises related to and extending the news text. The exercises encompass four language skills—reading, writing, listening, and speaking—with an emphasis on developing vocabulary.
